This sign in the door of an Uptown commercial establishment caught my eye. It says, “In any language, Uptown is a great place to be alive.” This caught my eye because it didn’t say “a great place to live.”
I’ve long wondered about the author’s intent. Was the author being cynical or literal? Or was the extra “a” that turned “live” into “alive” just an oversight by someone who spoke English as a second language?
