In Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood back in the mid-1970s, there used to be a small cafe in the Wilson ‘L’ Stop . On day after getting off the ‘L’ with my camera gear, I stopped in there and got this shot of an older gentleman as he smoked his cigarette and sipped his coffee. It’s unusual to see people smoking indoors in public places like this now. Most cities have banned the practice due to public health concerns. But it was common back then. People would bristle if you asked them not to smoke. Note the rip in the man’s jacket.
