On 4/12/2014, I observed hundreds of snowy egrets and cattle egrets at the Audubon Society’s Smith Oaks Preserve in High Island, Texas. One month into the breeding season they were at the rookery in abundance and displaying high breeding plumage. Most of the year, Snowy Egrets have yellow lores (the colored area between the beak and the eyes) and yellow feet. But in season, the lores turn bright red and feet turn deep orange. I caught this snow egret in flight with the Nikon D4 and 800mm f5.6 Nikkor.
