I took this photo of a mother roseate spoonbill incubating eggs at the Audubon Society’s Smith Oaks Rookery at High Island, Texas. While I was photographing her, she rose over the eggs and gently turned them with her bill. She also started straining and shaking, as if she were trying to lay another egg (there were already two in the nest).  However, I saw no evidence of another egg while I was watching.

Photo taken with the Nikon D4S, 800mm Nikkor and 2X teleconverter. ISO 2000, 1/6400th of a second with an effective aperture of f11.
