It’s amazing how much the animal world parallels the human world. I photographed these two male egrets in the rookery at High Island, Texas. They were standing chest to chest, facing each other down, fighting over a female. You could almost hear them saying, “You talkin’ to me?” as they butted each other. This was one of the first shots in a long series. The confrontation went on for several minutes. Eventually the female (not shown here) poked the male on the left in his back and he flew off.
