These two young men were part of an Edgewater gang called the Thorndale Jagoffs (TJOs) that were feuding with the Uptown Latin Kings when I took this picture at Winthrop and Ainslie on November 13, 1976. The Kings had repeatedly taken the batteries from TJO vehicles. So the TJOs came to Uptown prepared to do battle. Notice they are wearing shoulder pads. When they failed to find any Latin Kings, they decided on some symbolic payback; they urinated on the Latin Kings mural that was near this street corner. After zipping their flies back up, they congratulated themselves and let me take this picture which I call “TJOs after the Raid.”
