In the mid-1970s, I was photographing some kids roller skating down Lawrence Avenue in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood when I turned around and saw these two men staring at me from their pickup truck. Pickup trucks were very uncommon in Uptown at the time. This pair gave me an icy, chilling stare. I walked away thinking about the collision of lifestyles and cultures in the neighborhood.
