In the mid-1970s, the building that now houses Uplift Community High School on Wilson Avenue in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood was just finishing construction. Here’s what it looked like then. And here’s what it looks like now. I believe the building began life as Arai Middle School and was converted to Uplift Community High School in 2005. The school’s slogan: ” Be an Upstander, Not a Bystander.”  They define their mission as providing “a relevant student-centered curriculum focused on social justice, creating an academically nurturing environment that promotes critical and creative thinking, instills pride and respect for others and self, and equips all of our students to become leaders of tomorrow.”
