According to Danny Ahlfeld, a Chicago Fireman who used to work at this station, Engine 83 was the busiest fire company in the country in the 1970s and early 1980s. Uptown had more than its share of apartment fires and medical emergencies. Here the firemen take a well deserved rest while they watch the human parade and a young photographer walk by them. The station today in Google Maps street view shows a giant tree next to the building that was not present in the mid-1970s when I took this picture.
