Uptown had more pawn shops per block than any neighborhood I have ever seen. The staples haven’t changed much through the years: electronics, watches, jewelry, and tools. Such shops usually did more business on the days leading up to paydays. It seemed like people always needed a little more cash to buy food or make the rent until pay day rolled around.
