The restaurant business is characterized by long hours, late nights and hard work. When everyone else is relaxing from hard days work, those in the restaurant business are still hard AT work. In 1975, the owner of the Guatemala Cafe on Wilson Avenue in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood invited me into her kitchen to photograph their family hard at work. In this shot, the owner’s son-in-law is busy washing the dishes while his preschool aged daughter tries to help.
