Uptown residents in the mid-1970s may not have had a lot of money, but they got to watch one of the world’s greatest shows for free. I found this man sitting on his front steps, watching the world go by. People-watching was a favorite pastime and Uptown provided a never-ending stream of characters. People-watching knit neighborhoods together; this is how people got to know their neighbors.
