While photographing in Uptown during the mid-1970s, occasionally I shot street signs to remind me where I took a sequence of shots. These reminders have proven valuable in helping me locate many of the scenes in this portfolio 40 years after the fact. It’s interesting to see how backgrounds have changed (or not changed) in 40 years. I was standing just south of the corner of Wilson and Hazel in 1975 looking northwest when I took this shot. You can see the Chelsea Hotel with the fire escapes. Although the ownership of the building has changed, it is still visible today in Google Maps street view.
