Roseate spoonbills have problems balancing on limbs, but they are strong, powerful fliers. Close examination of their wing strokes with high speed photography reveals a sequence that looks much like a human swimmer doing the breaststroke. Here, the spoonbill has brought his arms up and around, to catch as much air as possible before starting his downstroke.
