This man was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood had many people with alcohol problems in the 1970s. This man told me that he stumbled out of a bar the week before I took this picture and fell asleep on a park bench. He said some teenagers hit him over his head with a beer bottle while he slept then tried to light him on fire. He felt lucky to survive the burns and the beating.
