In the mid-1970s, there was a Yellow Cab Garage somewhere in Uptown or Edgewater. My notes don’t specify the address, but a reader wrote in to say that he lived near it and that it was in the 5400 block of North Broadway. Yellow Cabs were the most common in Chicago during this era, but they were somewhat smaller than Checker Cabs. At 6’6″, I preferred the larger cabs whenever I could get them. Not many Uptown people could afford cabs, but many of the drivers lived near here and the rents were cheap. Hence the garage.
