I photographed this man several times in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood during the 1970s. On this occasion, he was wearing an ascot. On another occasion, he had freshly painted fingernails. I don’t know much about him. In a neighborhood characterized by eccentric people, he stood out above the rest. People tolerated eccentricity in Uptown; that was one of the things I loved about the neighborhood.
