In 1975, the Salvation Army operated a kitchen on Wilson Avenue. It was east of what was then the Bank of Chicago, tucked away between a currency exchange, the Luneta Barbershop and the Uptown Pawnshop. The lines were always long. Uptown had many people who needed food assistance during this era.
