In 1975, these two told me they belonged to an Uptown gang called the Gaylords. The one on the left called himself “The Drifter.” I suspect most of these young men joined gangs to put down roots or to gain a sense of belonging. Gang membership was a rare bright spot in their lives. Note the broken window in the background.
